the best type of paint for custom lettering on a car is ----- go to the ""paint of automobiles supply store"" and get the paint counter-dude to tell you what you need to air-brush on the car you are to be lettering... Is it a custom job or is it factory paint hat you are covering-- as well as you will nedd to clear coat over your work --- again the paint -supply will give you all the answers to do the correct application __ and a pro finish when done. If you use a spray can of paint to stencil letters --- well that is what it will look like... the air-brush will give you a nice look......

Most often used today are decals. You can design your own on a computer or have a designer do it for you. They are easy to apply and a clear coat over them makes them permanent. All NASCARS and many aerobatic aircraft are done that way.
