I haven't met anyone who say unequivocably that there is are no other sentient species in the galaxy.

The problem is that so far we've seen no verifiable evidence of other sentient species. That said, I believe with some certainty that somewhere in our galaxy at some past, present, or future time, a sentient species did/does/will exist.

Why haven't we heard from them?

Perhaps they are not technologically advanced enough to be heard. They may be mastering stone knives right now, or experiencing their own Rennaisance.

Perhaps they are here right now. Any species sufficiently advanced to travel interstellar distances would be able to hide or masquerade with ease. That Boeing 737 that just flew by may be a surveillance craft.

Perhaps they are so far away they will never notice us and vice versa.

Perhaps they existed a million years ago and died out.

Perhaps they will exist a million years from now.

It is really impossible to know for sure.

The Drake Equation suggests that there is sentient life out there. The Fermi Paradox casts doubt. Play around with the calculation form at the second link and see what you think.

You can, Alien races do exist but no one has found them yet. They might be intelligent or not. It all depends on the planets natural selection. Plus, they are over a billion star in a galaxy and over 100 billion galaxies around us. Some planets might be habitable and have life on them. So who is to stay they don't exist. Hope this helps!

Cant really. Its very possible. But...All good science demands proof. No proof then its just speculation. What is it thats so hard to understand about wanting Imperical evidence about things, issues, ETC, ETC? I can believe in the tooth fairy all day long but with out proof its just a fantasy. I believe the PROBABILITY of there being other life forms are quite high. But where or of what kind we just dont know.

Good point. But remember, the fact that we exist only established that its possible that there are intelligent beings elsewhere--but not that they actually do exist. The fact is we don't actually know one way or the other.

But it seems reasonable they do--even if the evolution of intelligence is very rare, its an awfully big universe. At least that's my opinion!

most people base that on religious belifs. but scully from the x files has a good explaination

Mulder: Look, Scully, I know it's not your inclination but... did you ever look up into the night sky and feel certain that... not only was something up there but... it was looking down on you at that exact same moment and was just as curious about you as you are about it?

SCULLY: Mulder, I think the only thing more fortuitous than the emergence of life on this planet is that, through purely random laws of biological evolution, an intelligence as complex as ours ever emanated from it.
Uh, the, the very idea...
...of intelligent alien life is not only...
...astronomically improbable but at it's most basic level, downright anti-Darwinian.

hope that helps:)

I'm not personally saying that there are not aliens out there, but the arguement by biology teacher uses is that the chances of life developing here on earth is so slim, that the chances of it happening again are next to nothing. Personally though, I think that there is life out there, but that we might not be able to recognize it.

As expansive as the Universe is, I'd say it's a pretty selfish, self-centered idea to think that we're the only intelligent life form in the entire Universe. I think it frightens people to think that there might be something else out there, that may very well be smarter and more advanced that us humans.

I abducted an alien about three week ago. Now I can't get him to leave. I think that he is eating socks, because alot of them are missing.

As a matter of fact he is under my bed right now and his snoring is keeping me awake.

Please help, how can I get him too leave?

If these creatures are on their home planet they are natives, not aliens.
