so im doing this research paper on american short story authors and one of their works. im not sure which one though. Willa Cather [ The Wagner's Matinee] or Flannery O'Conner [ The Life You Save May Be Your Own] . Which one would be easier ? think u can help? ... oh im a soph. if that matters or anything lol

O' Conner is great. Her writing is kind of real and twisted. But you should read both (esp. if they are short) and choose one.

Flannery O'Connor and Willa Cather are both great writers and both good regional writers. Cather's style is more realist and therefore a bit more straight forward. O'Connor's has a more mystical quality and relies more on symbolism and figurative language. There is more to evaluate in O'Connor, but you'll most likely need to be familiar with literary conventions to write about it effectively.

I never read the Willa Cather piece so I suggest the Flannery O'Connor one.

The only way to decide is to read both stories and figure out whether you understand either of them.
