Seems to me, that the more I spend on clothing, the less time I have it. Last fall, my husband talked me into getting some new shirts. Two shirts, same style different colors. Normally, if I was splurging for new, I would have just gotten one, but he talked me into two, reminding me that I can be TOO cheap at times. I washed them once, and they shrank. I buy something at a yard sale or a thrift store and the item lasts.
A long time ago (about ten years), I splurge and buy a bra from Victoria's Secret. It didn't last long, despite my handwashing it and putting it in the dryer on delicate, if I put it in the dryer at all. In just six or eight months, the cup irrepairbly rips. Yet, I can spend less than $10 for a Hanes or Fruit of the Loom bra at Wal-Mart (bras and undies are the only things I will for sure buy new) and they last me years.
Ironically, though, I got a free pair of Pink panties from Victoria's Secret. When they introduced the line, I was on the right mailing list, as I got a post card for a free pair. Not only are they comfortable, but they've lasted. However, they're not worth $5 a pair, especially when I can make a very rare Wal-Mart purchase and get a multi-pack of Hanes or Fruit of the Loom for just a few dollars more. Gee, I over pay for one thing, and it falls apart. I get another for free and they last. Go figure.
I have some "big name" stuff, i.e., a Banana Republic blouse, a Gap blouse, Express jeans, etc. Yet, they all cost me less than $5 at thrift stores. This is just me. I consider it a waste to buy new, though. Not when good clothes are at thrift stores waiting for another life.

Way over 500 for the beginning of the year, to get me started. Then about every two weeks I go buy 5-7 shirts and maybe 1-2 pairs of jeans. So around 3-5 hundred a month.

Sometimes but not always.
I mean asdas own brand is great for my nephews school clothes (he rips them alot), they are cheap and they last a fair time.
Sometimes the more expensive material is the more delicate material, like satin or silk, they're both very delicate but can make an item of clothing very expensive.
