Bitdefender is just as good as Kaspersky. From personal experience.
Kaspersky is also good. Used it for a little while but it kept using too much memory. But the scanning i sreally good.
Nod32 is good has well does not use alot of memory and does a effective job of finding viruses. Really good. The one that I liked the best out of all the anti-virus programs I used.

There is no shortage of good free antivirus programs. By far, the 3 most popular free antivirus are: Antivir, Avast and AVG. All 3 programs are free for life. Each has their pro's and con's. Overall, Antivir has the best detection and removal rate of the 3. Other less known free antivirus programs are AOL's Active Virus Shield and Norton Antivirus Special Edition for Google Pack. AOL contracted Kaspersky, a veteran security software firm, to create a special version of its respected antivirus program. Kaspersky Antivirus has consistently been in the top 3 best antivirus programs, both in the free and paid antivirus program groups. The license is free for the first year but, after 1 year, you have to purchase a license to continue using it. Norton Antivirus has created a slimmer edition of its famous antivirus program for Google. It comes with 1 free year of updates. After 1 year, you have to buy a license to continue using it.
My personal preference is AOL's Active Virus Shield. It provides great protection without slowing down my computer. The download links are:
1. Antivir, Avast and AVG (http://www.filehippo.com/software/antivirus/)
2. AOL Active Virus Shield (http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp?)
3. Norton Antivirus for Google (http://pack.google.com/intl/en/pack_installer.html?hl=en&gl=us)

Download Norton, AVG , Avast which are free antivirus software. They do protect your computer and you can keep updating them once in three days or so. Ad-aware, Ewido are free spyware removers. You can download free softwares at http://fixit.in/antivirus.html and http://fixit.in/spywareremover.html

Almost everything available is good as long as it's updated daily. Some bog down the computer and others that are just as good don't slow down the computer hardly at all.
