they actually sang. ewan mcgregor sang every one of the songs, nicole kidman sang everything also except one note she couldn't hit.
i was watching the extras on the dvd because i rented it cus my friend never saw it and the director or producer i think [ someone who had part in making the movie ] wasn't so enthusiastic about ewan & nicole singing but when he heard their voices he just loved it so much he let them sing every song.

Yes, Nicole and Ewan actually sang in Moulin Rouge. And surprising they weren't half bad.

yes they both sung. i remember reading an interview with ewan macgregor where he said it was embarassing because they had to sing live in front of everybody on the set!
