I believe it sees something in your house that it desires or he thinks the window is open. If you have any pets, like hamsters, fish, anything small like that, he might be after that.

I used to have a blue-jay, do the same thing to one of our windows, and I thought, why is this crazy bird pecking on my window. I thought the bird was going to break it, as it was a big but old glass, window. I realized that he thought he was looking at another bird, because of the reflection, from the glass. Cover the outside of the window, and see what happens.

These birds are very busy this time of year searching for a mate... ever heard the expression... BIRD BRAINED ??
They think they have found a mate. Obviously, they are not smart enough to realize that all they are seeing is their own reflection. I have seen all kinds of birds do this, from turkeys to blue jays and so on.

whats wrong with letting the bird in, they are harmless
I have birds coming to my window daily and fly inside all the time - the birds that hang around here - always come up to me when I am hosing in the back yard and I give them a shower every day they love it
maybe this bird was being fed from previous owners and wants a feed or wants you to play

They are not trying to get in. They see their own reflections in the glass and think it's another bird.
