1997 ford taurus is burinig gas very richly and smells like pure gasoline, what could be some possible probs?

The fuel is under high pressure, so a leak is very dangerous. The pure gas smell should be checked out ASAP.

A bad fuel pressure regulator could be pouring gas into the vacuum line attached to it.
