I don't think rappers should be fired or banned for saying certain words. Just as I don't think Imus should have been fired either. What happened to freedom of speech? It seems nowadays people can't say anything without being reprimanded. The same goes for the actor Isiah Washington of Grey's Anatomy for using the homosexual "f" word when describing a fellow actor. I have heard people be called names far worse than that. I don't condone any use of offensive and crude language and wish that people find a better way of expressing their feelings. If we could all use language that is respectable then this world will be a far better place.

Funny I was watching the movie Happy Feet last night and one of the songs even has nappy head in it, a kids movie yet Imus used the term and is racist. Want to know why he was fired.....Because America is becoming a nations of hypocrites, who lead the charge for Imus, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, two men who have made much worse comments, hymietown ring a bell? Funny, they have not gone after the rappers, Chris Rock, or Dave Chappelle, or even Carlos Mencia, minority celebrities who make a living off of racial material. There is a terrible double standard in America, I am not a racist, I believe in equality, if one group can do it, all groups can do it. I also believe in freedom of speech and if people are truly offended, dont listen. I didnt like Imus, so I didnt listen, people have freedom of choice to listen or not. It is funny people are offended by a tongue in cheek joke, sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me, ring a bell? Funny first graders get it yet adults dont.

Not really an answer, just an opinion here, so take it for what it is worth.

I fault neither the rap industry nor Don Imus for words spoken. The people I do blame are the millions of mindless consumers in America who have willingly digested so much sh*t in recent years that phrases such as b*tch and Ho have become a common-place part of our language. I fault the millions of ignorant people running rampant in the streets that do not have the common sense to read the first amendment to our constitution and for not realizing that it is not up to us to police every thought or action someone else has or does, but to police what we allow ourselves to be subjected to.

If you don't want to hear some short sighted,narrow-minded commentary, don't listen to it. If you're forced to hear this kind of talk for reasons beyond your control, show how enlightened you are and be the bigger person by ignoring it and not giving audience to it. Same thing applies for Rap Music. Don't go out and buy an album that plainly states there is explicit content on the record and then cry about what is on it. Just don't buy it in the first place.

This country is Capitalistic... if you want to force changes in this society, stab Corporate America where it is going to hurt... in their wallets. You want to stop on air bigotry, masogeny? Stop Tuning in, Stop Buying. Consumer America is the problem, not the citizen airing his/her rights to free speech.

The difference is that Imus used the public airwaves to spread his bigotry; and, rappers don't if their music is on recorded media or in a paid venue.

Imus got fired by MSNBC and NBC because they do not support that kind of language, nor do thier viewers/listeners. Rappers make money off these words because their audience supports them.

I think so.

But then Americans will start shouting "my rights to freedom of speech" have been violated, so it won't happen.

At any rate, rappers are known to be demeaning to women, although it is not acceptable to most, but Imus wasn't and was suppose to be above that element.

You left out the all-important "nappy headed". Therein lies his destruction. Plus, Don Imus dodn't exactly have "calling names" in his job description, while it is expected from rappers.

I don't write the rules, I just tell 'em as I see 'em.
