Variations in solar output, possibly amplified by cloud feedbacks, have been suggested as a possible cause of recent warming. Adding CO2 or CH4 to Earth's atmosphere, with no other changes, will make the planet's surface warmer.
Another important feedback process is ice-albedo feedback.[The increased CO2 in the atmosphere warms the Earth's surface and leads to melting of ice near the poles. As the ice melts, land or open water takes its place. Both land and open water are on average less reflective than ice, and thus absorb more solar radiation. This causes more warming, which in turn causes more melting, and this cycle continues.

The cause of Global Warming is the excess Carbon Dioxide realeased into the air from the use of fossil fuels. The Carbon Dioxide supposedly goes into the ozone layer and makes it stronger. Light energy from the sun can get through the ozone layer easy, but it cannot go out easily. This is called the greenhouse effect. But, excess carbon dioxide lets less heat leave and heats the Earth more. To stop this people are trying to use different kind of fuels, such as solar, wind, and electric energy. Fuel made from decomposed material can also replace fossil fuels.

Gene is right. The truth is we don't know. There are theories that increased solar activities that may have seeded clouds for water vapor. Water vapor is a far more potent greenhouse gas than CO2 simply because there is so much more of it. In any event, it seems to fit previous cycles of heating and cooling and there is no reason to believe it isn't natural. For those who think it is because our cars or our light bulbs, they really need to get a grip on reality and stop believing everything they hear in my opinion.

Probably the fact that the sun's output has gone up .2% in the last 40 years. Mars and Pluto have been heating up too.... Read here
