Typically it is because after you go to the court to begin the petition for support there is a lot of snail mail involved. On top of that you have to wait for the court to give you a hearing date which can be months away depending on how backed up they are. Once the process is over and you get your court ordered child support on paper then you're good. It's a one time deal and it is definitely worth it. Good Luck

Depending on what state you live in. I work for an attorneys office and most child support division's can get it taken care of through them. You either need to contact an attorney or child support services and one of them will get you the help you need.

well it depends are you getting divorced or just a child support order if your not getting a divorce it shouldn't be so bad. also being a state worked i can tell you if you are on any kind of state assistance the state will help you w/ it. so if you have a worker ask them and they will help you if not you should be able to do it on your own as well.

hope this helps

YES!!!! I filed for child support in January and my ex lives in another state. I'm still waiting for some kind of notice that my case is moving forward. It's ridiculous.

a temporary one isnt too lengthy, but revising, updating, trying to make it permanent is an ongoing process, especially if the 'supporting' party takes you back to court twice a year.
It can also be very very expensive and stressful. :(

Yes unfortunately it is, however it is more than worth the effort. Be a good mother and go file the paper work for your children's benefit.
