The Pacific Coast from San Francisco all the way up to the Olympic Peninsula in WA State. Inland it gets warmer, i.e. hot, but right along the coast and 10-15 miles from the coast it stays cool. Usually in the 60's.

The walk-in freezer at the Ralph's on Lincoln just west of Brookhurst.
Seriously, though, stay west of the Rockies at that time of the year or you may succumb to the horrific humidity.
Coastal California from Ventura County north has great Mediterranean weather, low humidity and not oppressively hot. Also, the Pacific Northwest. East of the Rockies in August avoid the south. Check the weather if you are in places like New York, Chicago, St. Louis...places known for their killer heat/humidity waves. Have a good trip!!
