In a couple days I have a job orientation for a job as a childcare counselor at a treatment facility for teens. Human resource has seen my resume and briefly talked with me on the phone. I haven't had an interview yet. The first time they will meet me is at the job orientation. I have no idea what to wear. I don't want to wear a dressy suit and high heel shoes if I'm going to be walking around the facility and doing actual training. But I also don't want to underdress by wearing khakis, a nice shirt and suede shoes that tie if I'm going to be interviewed or something. So I have no idea what to wear. What should I wear? Do I call the place and ask? (or would that be stupid)?

I have had several jobs before, but not in this field. I had an interview and was hired before the job orientation. The job orientation has always occured on my first day of work. So I don't know what to expect at this job orientation.

I think I'm going to wear the paintsuit with a nice buttondown shirt and black shoes with low heels. If I'm overdressed then oh well. I don't know what's going to happen whether it's going to be a true orientation (showing me the facility, talk about procedures, train a little) or if it's going to be interview/orientation (showing me facility, talk about procedures and ask questions about me). Even if it's a true orientation I would rather their first impression of me be overdressed than underdressed. Any physical thing that I do in khaki's I can do in my pant suit and dress shoes. The pant suit isn't thick, so I won't get hot and sweaty if we do a lot of walking.

It is better to be dressed too professional than too casual, but do wear shoes you can walk in. Pantsuit is a good choice.

Good luck!

I'd go middle of the road, but more profesional than khakis. Maybe a pantsuit, with a blouse (not tee or polo shirt) and I'd imagine the suede shoes would be fine if you're going to be walking all over the place. Personally, I wouldn't call the place- I'd be reluctant to seem uncertain, but I agree that over dressed is likely a better choice than too casual, by a long shot. Good luck

It's pretty unusual to have a job orientation before you're even hired. Normally for a job orientation you'd wear whatever is appropriate dress for the job, but in this case you might want to go just a little bit dressier.

It probably wouldn't be out of line for you to call their HR department and ask what the orientation will consist of.

Marshalls has a very casual dress code, you should wear a nice pair of slacks or skirt and a nice blouse. If they hired you even though you were wearing jeans, it may be okay to wear a nice pair of jeans with a nice shirt as well. I wouldn't wear sandals though, you should wear shoes that are casual but comfortable because you'll most likely be on your feet quite a bit. It also couldn't hurt to call them and see what the dress code policy entails.

Business professional. If you are ever in doubt, always go for being over dressed vs. under dressed.
