Anyone first played Sonic the Hedgehog, who freaked out over Dr. Robotnik first appearance?

When I first played Sonic the Hedgehog (1991 Genesis), the first level was fun and a breeze, until a "UFO" came down, wit' a fat man in it. He was swinging his disco ball, I thought "what the heck, did he come from another planet?". His theme music scared my younger brother at the time.
