I have read that putting a couple of ounces of acetone into my gas tank with every ten gallons can significantly increase my gas mileage and lower my hydrocarbon emissions. (http://pesn.com/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/)
However, my car is a 2000 Chevy Metro (the four-cylinder, four-door version), which I know is a rather cheaply-made car. Would it be safe for me to put in the acetone?

I don't think it is a good idea.. The acetone is a solvent and it could cause damage to the rubber or plastic parts in your car's engine. Do what you want, and I have no proof that it will, but I wouldn't do it.
