I want to stop the bugs and caterpillars from eating my flower garden, but I don't like the idea of killing animals just for being hungry. Does anyone know of an insect repellent that will keep bugs away without killing them? I don't think mosquito spray will work in this case.

Note: Buy a liquid........ soap.............
.... and not a detergent.......................
Health food stores have liquid soaps, such as Dr. Bronner’s Pure-Castile Soaps.

Some stores carry a soap called Fels Naptha...Link Below

If they are crawling animals, try diatenaceous earth (sorry, spelling is suspect here), available at most garden stores or nurseries. Sprinkle or spread a bead of it around the plants or areas. It is entirely organic, but is composed of tiny, sharp, irritating shards of material that most soft tissue animals really avoid.

It also works to keep ant population down around honey bee hives. Believe it or not, they get it on their feet, carry it back to their nests and pass it on to the larva. The shards often rupture the really soft tissue of the larva, killing them and knocking down the population of honey robbing ants.

Set them out some food and tell them it is bribery if they will stay away from your flowers..

You could mix up a weak detergent solution and spray the plants with that to give the bugs a tummy ache and diarrhea.Jerry Baker's books have some good recipes..here is a link to his website..

Go with a biological control. Nowadays you can purchase lady beetles , crickets etc. Check using biological control on your computer for specific problems. Good luck.

Nicotine is a natural bug repellent. I don't know where to buy it for that.

kind of an oxymoron, isn't it? "Humane Pesticide".

there are insecticidal soaps that you can get at most garden centers. Just ask for them.
