White vinegar or real lemon juice in a bowl nuked to boiling will take the smell out. Plus, the steam will loosen any baked on food particles so that you can simply sponge them off.

Use lemon juice and vinegar about a 1/4 cup each. Add another 1/2 cup of water and heat it to boiling in the microwave. Let the hot water sit in the microwave for a few minutes and wipe clean.

To freshen up and deodorize your microwave, place a bowl of water in the oven and add three or four slices of lemon. Cook on high for thirty seconds. You can also try putting a little vanilla in a bowl, place it in your microwave and turn your oven on High for one minute. Repeat if this doesn't remove the smell after one try.

Get a ripe lime, and put it in the microwave on high until you hear it pop, that will make it smell fresh and makes it easier to clean.

take a heat proof container, fill with water and place a sliced lemon, or a couple vanilla beans in the water... microwave for a few minutes, and the water will steam and fill your microwave with whatever you place in the water. I do this, and it works for me!

regular cleaning is the only way to achieve that. pretty smells are quick fixes unless you're going to do that often. when you wipe down countertops etc clean the inside of your microwave. clorox/lysol are both effective and so is getting out all food splatters and let over bits.

I've heated up orange juice. It sounds weird but it worked. I suppose it depends how bad the odor is.
