I think it has a bad influence on witchcraft. Now we have all these little kids running around pretending to be witches and wizards. I tell you it's cheapening the whole movement. It used to be that children were only for snacks in witchcraft, now they are trying to be witches. Shameful.

Hell yes it's a good thing. The people who argue against Harry Potter seem VERY close minded.
I'm sorry, but people were reading Lord of the Rings waaaay before Potter entered the scene and sure, we have a good number of geeks playing D&D, but you don't see whole nations full of wizards and rangers.
Plus, anything that encourages kids to read is GREAT in my mind, so let the Harry Potter phenomenon continue for as long as it possibly can.

No. I believe Harry Potter is fun entertainment, and has no more influence on kids than a witch in a Disney movie would have. It's all just good fun.

Are ppl still on this hole harry potter thing. my kids are 2,4 and 6 my 6 year old love harry potter and he is not trying to cast spells and even if he did it pretending shouldn't kids pretend and use their imaginations? It is entertainment. I watched all kinda witch movies as a kid and know body ever had a prob with them but because harry is so popular it must be bad. Everyone get over your self's and stop witch hunting.

witchcraft had a stronger influence on harry potter than harry potter on witchcraft.
however hary potter may have aroused some ppl to research about witchcraft and therefore harry potter may have indirectly took witchcraft to the masses especially to young ages.
however i see nothing wrong with anyone of any age doing research on witchcraft it is just knowledge as long as they dont get carried into the whole thing.
therefore this does not make hary potter a bad movie as it is just entertainmnet and anyone who takes it too seriously is just being ridiculous.

modern witches don't point a wand, say things that sound vaguely Latin and poof something happens. Harry Potter doesn't do anything that witches do. it's a work of fiction, several works,I should say. if Harry Potter really promoted witchcraft, with his popularity, nearly every kid in the world would be able to cast spells.

Harry Potter is not at all following any cults or beliefs. I think that people refusing to watch films like this because they think that witchcraft is evil and whatever is completely pathetic. It was written by some woman on a subway, and I'm pretty sure she wasn't a witch.

Harry Potter is fantasy. It also has mythology in it. The main thing I think kids might get from it, is the strong bond of friendship between the characters. That is a very good lesson for them to learn. I also has bravery, thinking for yourself, loyalty... all REALLY good things for children, and adults, to learn.

I don't think so, it's just a book from where they created a movie; we have to be conscious about it and not believe everything we see. People knows is fantasy, they actually named the characters moguls, not humans, the cities don't exist, Everything is part of a fantasy world.
Everything has a good side and a bad side, it depends on the person seeing it as bad or good.
For me is entertainment. it has nothing to do with reality. If you can't distinguish the difference between from fantasy and reality then you have a problem.

ok, first off, i agree with you. J.K.rowling made the books in the first place just as an entertainment. kids wanting to goof off and pretend they're witches and wizards are just being kids. would you tell them that a princess or powerranger movie is a bad influence? BUT I LOVE HARRY POTTER!!!

J. K. Rowling says she doesn't believe in magic. Yet also like most people, Rowling doesn't share Tolkien's and Lewis's moral caution about attempted magic in the real world. As far as she's concerned, the only caveat about magic is that it doesn't work. For her, wizardry and witchcraft are imaginary constructs offering opportunities for storytelling with no more potential risk to the reader than fantasies about traveling at warp speed like in Star Trek, or developing super-powers from the bite of a radioactive arachnid like Spiderman. Rowling, therefore, has not seen fit to hedge about her use of magic as have Tolkien and Lewis.
