www.ajb.org That is the american job bank. Tricky to use but at least the jobs are screened.

craigslist.org is good.

Go to your department of labor and ask for help.

Monster.com, carreerbuilder.com and hotjobs are all ok too. But they don't screen the people puting in the jobs, so don't make your resume public or you'll get the weirdo multi-level marketing guys calling you.

Start networking with everyone you know and everyone you meet. Squeeky hinge gets the oil.

Go to staffing agencies in your area. Take what ever you can. Even if it is part time. That will still allow you to look around on your off time. And you can decide if you want to stay with them too.

Hang in there.

The good jobs are rarely found in the paper
And the major employers , rarely advertise openings ,
(unless there is an upcoming strike and they need scabs)

Think about what you want to do and go to the HR / personnel offices at the companies . (look around town , who are the major employers ?)
Their jobs openings are posted on their hiring boards and the really good jobs have a waiting list of applicants who put an app on file and check back regularly .

Depending where you live, there are something called Employment agencies.
You go to their office and fill out a bunch of forms and they look for jobs for you.
Companies deal with them when they need help to avoid the hassel of advertising and pre-screening. When the agency thinks you fit a certain job, they send you for an interview.
The company pays the employment agency if they hire you.

You do not PAY money, if someone asks for money, walk away.

For employment agencies, look in yellow pages.
