The original and only sensible version of this saying is “You can’t eat your cake and have it too,” meaning that if you eat your cake you won’t have it any more. People get confused because we use the expression “have some cake” to mean “eat some cake,” and they therefore misunderstand what “have” means in this expression.

You probably can't do anything with the cake, and so your boredom develops into the need of smashing the cake into one's face.

ummm. Maybe it's a dogfood cake (dog treat). Or a cat treat cake. I don't know. Personally when I buy cake (chocolate cheesecake) I intend not only to eat it, but to eat it all by myself and all in one setting. (and no i'm not fat, i'm only a few lbs over my ideal weight)

It doesn't actually refer to cake, it is like i a man or woman wants their wife and family but wants to cheat, he/she is said to want their cake and to eat it too, they want both. The best of both worlds, understand?

It is supposed to be "You can't EAT your cake and HAVE it Too" but if you point that out you are arrested because that's what happened to the Unibomber. Seriously. His brother recognized that in a publishes letter from the Unibomber. ( I guess it's a bad day to mention a bomber, sorry.)

That's a great question! How can you eat a cake that you haven't got it in your grubby mitts?

If you eat the cake, it's not there anymore, and you no longer "have it"

If you have cake -- you have cake.
When you eat cake, you don't have it anymore (it's in your stomach being digested).
