(16 - 3r^2 + 4r) - (12 - 3r + 2r^2) first we need to get ride of the ( ). The first set of ( ) can just disappear since there is no sign or positive sign infront of it... but for second pair we must distribute the - sign in the ( ). So we get
16 - 3r^2 + 4r - 12 + 3r - 2r^2 now add like terms which gives
4 - 5r^2 + 7r which can be re-written as
4 + 7r - 5r^2

If you need further clarification or further help email me or im me. Good Luck.

lets first open the braces

16 - 3r^2 + 4r - 12 + 3r -2r^2
(a minus sign before a parentheses changes every sign within them)
4 - 5r^2 + 7r

(16 - 3r² + 4r) - (12 - 3r + 2r²) =

Remove parenthesis. there is a negative (-) sign preceding the parenthesis. once the parenthesis is removed the signs change.

16 - 3r² + 4r - 12 + 3r - 2r² =

Collecting like terms

- 3r² - 2r² + 4r + 3r + 16 - 12 =

- 5r² + 7r + 4

re arrange the whole thing=
(-3r^2+3r-12)+(16+4r-2r^2)=
-3(r^2-r+4)+ -2 (r^2-2r-8)=
-3(r+.5)(r+.5)-2 (r-2)(r+4)
