It's just not that simple in such a challenging landscape as Afghanistan had.
The Afghan topography defeated the mighty USSR. It may take a while to create the infrastructure necessary to impose law and order in the mountains.

We cannot bomb millions of acres of open fields. And even if we could, how are the people going to make a living? They will all join the Taliban.

Also do not forget that if there were no buyers, there would be no sellers or growers.
It is not good only to blame the other fellow.

For the same reason we didn't focus the " real war on terror "
in Afghanistan.
The administration wanted Iraq.
They didn't care about the REAL threat because it's in Afghanistan in the mountains.
Always has been.
And they get a Sh*t load of money from selling opium.
Why didn't we or aren't we bothering them?
Because it's all been bogus my friend.

Please, you are so naive. Why do you think the US bombed Afghanistan in the first place? The Taliban had originally cut off the opium supply (drugs are anti-islam). The multi-billion dollar US heroin industry has made a comeback. Opium is your friend. God bless America.

Because it would also cripple the government's only source of income; albeit corruptly.
