For a tragedy of this magnitude, he is first and foremost our Commander In Chief and our highest level public servant. That being said, by appearing, he shows his concern, respect and support to not only the affected families, but also the affected students and residents of that city. Politics also come into play as, of course he is a politician. It would be exteremely insensitive had he not appeared given the national attention the incident received, how devastating the incident was.

While this nation hasn't had such a caring man as President in a long time ..it must seem unusual that we have one who is all that and more . Our nations children and loved ones died in the worst school massacre in our history . George W. Bush is our nation's President . It may not have been absolutely necessary-but it is most appropriate . His compassion for America reaches all directions . It meant a lot to the families who lost loved ones . How can that be faulted - except by liberal democrats who hate him - and use him his every move to crucify him and somehow promote democrats ..

No not out of respect but trust me you do not want to hear my answer. Also alot of the sheeps mind are too tiny for them to comprehend it anyway. Yeh ok and when the twin towers were crashed into by airplanes where was George in a classroom for 20 minutes even though he knew. Where did he go straight after the attack? On vacation. The guys a clown and so are his sheep. A hundred times more people died in New York on 9/11 and he treated it as a joke. You guys cannot see what is happening here so I won't try to educate you on why he is bothering so much about this school shooting.

Necessary? No. Classy? Yes. Like it or not, he is the President of the United States, and when tragedy befalls our fellow citizens, any President should honor and express his sorrow for the victims and their families. Is it just that it's Bush and not Clinton that irks you so? You are just silly and transparent in your hatred. If you just break free of the negativity you would be a much happier person.

He is The President of the United States. Maybe its out of respect to the families. Of course people like you would want to perpetuate the idea that he's doing it for political reasons.

Out of respect for the families of the students and teachers.
Like him or not, he and his wife try to be respectful of others.
You don't see him calling people liars and idiots etc as some of the others do.
