The flag is associated with slavery racism etc. because the people who used the flag supported slavery and also if you live in the deep south ex: Alabama or Mississippi you would notice how much the N word is used. Not all people dislike the flag. It would not have been a problem if the people who used the flag had not been racist.

I'm from Alabama and the Rebel flag has a history behind it that includes racism and slavery.
I understand that you are proud of being a Southerner, I am too, but I don't want the rebel flag which represented the South's secession of the United States because they wanted to remain a slave state be a symbol of my Southern upbringing.
It doesn't mean Southerners support slavery, it shows that we are ignoring our past that involved slavery and I can understand why people get upset.

Truthfully, it is because they are ignorant, and must be excused, out of politeness, for their ignorance. They know about as much about the South as they have seen on the Dukes of Hazard.

Arguably Fremont, though a yank General but of Southern tradition, actually freed the slaves and the North stripped Fremont of his rank for freeing the slaves. oops, talk about racists.

So these ignorant folk that dis the South have no idea whatsoever what they speak of.

That, and the fact the South kicked the ever living daylights out of their asses. 50 million vs. 7 million means we had about a 7:1 kill ratio, not bad.

If the South was not kicking the North's *** so bad, blacks would still be slaves, in the North. Originally Lincoln freed ONLY Southern slaves, oops again.

The Northerners were, and are, the racists. They only played the lets free the Blacks game because they were losing the war.

I don't have a problem with it either. Of course, I'm from the south too, but still, like you said, people need to get over it. It's a part of American history, like it or not. Of course, my wife has a different opinion. She's black and insists that to her that flag means the same thing the Nazi flag means to me. She overstates her case a bit, because the slaveholders wanted to keep her ancestors alive and working for them instead of wiping them out altogether like the Nazis tried to do to my ancestors (and pretty nearly succeeded too!) Nevertheless, the Confederate flag is a part of American history, and the Nazi flag never was. Case closed as far as I'm concerned.

I believe that the rebel flag is racist (not raccist) because the majority of the people I knew in the south who flew it and displayed it on their trucks WERE racist. I'd hear them use the "n word" repeatedly - talk about how mixed marriages were disgusting and wrong - etc.

Still - if they want to fly them - I suppose that is their right. AND - it's my right to believe that they are racist for doing so.

I lived in the south for years - and I am so happy to be in California now. Very few of those flags here. I believe the people here are much smarter too.

Because people are ignorant, and have no idea what the flag truly stands for, nor do they wish to know because bashing it serves their agendas (liberals, black race baiters). This country would be a much better place today if that flag were flying atop the White House.

Most southerners didn't own slaves and never wanted them here in the first place.

It's call, Lack of Education. Most people that hate the Rebal Flag have just heard someone say something bad and they take it and run with it. This goes for White People as and well as any other race, or color People.

maybe you don't have a problem with it because you're from the south... just a guess.

most people don't know that, and when the civil war was going on, people who supported slavery rocked that flag. think about it.

regional identities can be a wonderful thing, but that flag IS associated with racism and slavery.

Elvis makes a better symbol for the South, IMHO.

But its a symbol of a nation that agreed and fought to keep slavery. Its also a symbol of those so ignorant that when they didnt get what they wanted, they decided that they would turn away from Democracy and turn on their own countrymen
