to not give proper notice is suicide. You must give notice or it will come back and bite you.
Send a nice letter, recap a couple positive highlights of your time there, let them know if you can be of help in the transition or in the future you are glad to help, etc.

Write a resignation letter and hand it over yourself to your boss so you'll have a chance to talk about it. If you are not in good terms with your boss then just drop it in his mail box. I suggest you give a 2-week notice if your job is something that would greatly affect the flow in the office. You don't want to burn any bridges. However, if you intend to burn bridges because you are holding a grudge against your boss then just don't bother to write. Just don't show up the next day. You know better what to do because you are more aware of the repercussions of doing one or the other.

I called my boss immediately when I knew that I wanted to quit same day but, offered to stay the week entire as a favor and as something to improve my image a little to my next employer.
1) Explain your situation to him as a professional would. Do not say, "take this job and...."
2) Give what you can and what you think is fair to give.
Truthfully I would LOVE to be in your situation as I am tired of employers financially oppressing the b jezus out of me. I would start my own co. but, would be short by way too many perspective clients.
Best of luck to you.
