Yeah, you've definitely sprained it,and from the sounds of it it's pretty bad (probably a grade 2 which is partial tearing of ligaments because you can put weight on it).

Here's what you do:

Rest (don't walk on it,try to get a hold of crutches)
Ice (20 minutes every hour)
Compression (use an ACE wrap or ankle brace)
Elevation (at least at hip level, above the heart is better)

Once you've accomplished this, find somebody who can take you to the ER because if you continue to use your ankle,it will get worse, and if you don't get treatment then it will never get better. If you can't get to the ER,try to make an appointment with a doctor (preferably a sports doctor or an orthopedist) ASAP.Also, you need an x-ray,just to rule out any possible fractures.

Take it easy.Don't go to school and keep using RICE until you have received proper treatment.

Also,if neither of your parents thought that this was a reason to go to the doctor, especially your dad who looked at it,I question their judgement!

I sprained my ankle when I was 16 and my parents didn't take me to the doctor. I was on crutches for a few days. After 10 years I had to have surgery because my ankle was so weak from constantly turning it. If you don't get it taken care of now you will have major problems with it for the rest of your life. If your mom won't take you to the hospital get a friend to drop you off or something. I have never had a sprain where I heard a noise. It could easily be a broken bone even though you are walking on it. For now ice elevate and stay off it. Go to the school nurses she may be able to let you borrow crutches. Ace bandages might help from twisting it again, if you can find a lace up bandage those are better than the aircasts(according to my podiatrist). Most of this stuff you can get at any pharmacy. But seriously find a way to see a doctor and get it xrayed.

Just the fact that you "heard" something should throw up a red flag. If you think the sound came from your foot or leg, then get to the EOR! Sometimes a sprain can be worse than an actual fracture or break and will continue to bother you forever seen by a doc or not. First, you need to stay off it - weight bearing will only cause further injury and trauma to your ankle and foot. Ice only helps the first 24 hrs, but it may serve to alleviate your pain somewhat by numbing the area until you can be seen. Tylenol or Motrin is also helpful. If the area is red and swollen, then take the Motrin since it is an antiinflammatory. But be sure not to take it on an empty stomach. Dont wait to long for xrays either cuz if it IS fractured, they will have to rebreak it and that hurts worse than the original injury.

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

Well it can be more then a sprain. It can be broken or something torn. If not seen by a Dr it can heal wrong and cause allot of problem down the road. I took had the same problem and my dad did not want to take me to the hosp. Turned out not only did i brake it but i chipped a bone. It healed wrong and had to have surgery later do to the chip causing the ankle to re-fracture. I was in a cast for over a year. So if you want to be sure you need to go see a Dr.

I realize you do not wish to listen to this...however my pal is this type of sporting events addict as of approximately two years in the past, and in view that she simply randomly began go nation strolling and cycling within the wooded area close her condo, using three days per week (horses) monitor practices three days per week, (sundays she is going for further runs and motorbike rides) and not using a earlier coaching earlier than that besides for infrequent runs external her as soon as per week using courses and college monitor practices (she is this type of enthusiast...I do not see how she does it however...) she sprains her ankle(s) once or more a month. SPRAINS NEVER HEAL COMPLETELY. her mother is a nurse and regularly reminds her of that, she wears a tensor/ace bandage, and an ankle brace, on each and every ankle whether or not its sprained or no longer (heavier ones for while theyre truthfully sprained) for the reason that she used to be so reckless (and she or he's correct right here as I variety this lol, however she's busy ranting approximately how her horseshow used to be cancelled for the reason that of rain lol) she ended up strain fracturing an already sprained ankle gambling volleyball, (and she or he sprained it throughout baseball). the one factor she will do now's trip. No distance strolling or sprinting, no cycling, simply using, for the reason that it is the best factor that does not harm it. She might not be fully healed till the top of September, and has to spend her cash that mainly is going to horse stuff, on physio. This is protecting her again from the 800 m provincials. the final result sucks...it is going to heal so much much less in case you play...and despite the fact that she nonetheless excercised, nonetheless rode, nonetheless went to monitor meets and horseshows, she regrets it, for the reason that the everlasting soreness and pain from braces and tensors holds her again. (she additionally has Osgood-Shlatters Disease and has to put on two kneee braces on each and every knee at the same time strolling and cycling) pass forward and play, simply be fairly cautious approximately whether or not or no longer you've earlier sprained it. be aware from pal: "I could like to mention that Jamie's being dramatic...which probably the wording makes it appear like that, however sure I am very damage inclined... however no soreness so long as I'm dressed in the braces...however she's correct, sprains by no means heal. I roll over on my ankle, it hurts for hours or days, if I commute, identical factor. BE CAREFUL..."

since you are walking on it it sounds sprained.... I would call a doctor and have him check it out just to make sure you dont have any fractures or anything. He can also tell you what type of brace u should use... to keep from re-spraining it or breaking it until it heals... and maybe even some meds for pain. Until you can see a doctor tho keep it elevated above ur heart to prevent alot of swelling and try to stay off of it as much as possible... try taking Alive if you have to for pain. BUt I would def call your doctor to get it checked.

R.I.C.E it! Rest it, Ice it, Compress it, and Elevate it.
I would suggest going to a doctor just in case, its most likely just a sprain but they can prescribe pain killers or crutches so you stay off of it. Most importantly though is to make sure you get ice on it ASAP! for the first 48hrs you need ice! and but it up as much as possible. Ibuprofen will help with the pain and swelling. Hope you feel better soon!

Go to your Doctor, or at least tell your doctor, he may request an X-ray. It sounds like it is broken or dislocated. Crutches
will help if you know anyone who has an extra pair.
Mom or Dad should take you to the Doctor.
Cold ice pack for the swelling, and hope you stay off of your
ankle, go to the Dr. and stay at home until you get those
crutches. hope all is better when it heals.

It's sprained all right- badly. As much as you can, raise it and ice it. And a bandage is a good idea too. Stay off that ankle as much as you can.

Since you say it made that noise when you tripped and fell, you'll want to get it X-rayed too.

Good luck, Honey.
