You can take Tylenol PM which is perfectly safe. It contains benedryl which makes you sleepy. Both tylenol and benedryl are category B drugs in pregnancy and are safe to take.

You can always read after you wake up. Sometimes the act of reading on the eyes will help you relax and fall back to sleep. Best of luck.

It is suggested you should not take very hot baths during the 1st trimester. I am 6 1/2 weeks and going through the same thing. Sounds strange, but I have actually found that if I fall asleep with the tv on I seem to stay asleep longer.I wake up several times a night and can't go back to sleep either. Maybe soemthing that makes white noise would help. It should subside by the 3rd month.

This is not an uncommon complaint - I remember it well myself.
The first trimester, you will find yourself very tired and it's not uncommon to have sleeping problems. I think you've tried pretty much everything - mention it to your Doctor to ask if he/she has any other suggestions (you don't want to take any sleeping aids during pregnancy).
Good news is the second trimester, your energy will return and life will seem normal...even better than. Then the last trimester you'll get tired again and toward the end of it, will again experience sleeping problems....nature's way of getting you ready to handle those night time feedings!
Best thing to do is to try and get what sleep you can at night and catch a cat nap during the day whenever you can.
Good luck with your pregnancy.

Never heard of that one... sleep was the only thing I was able to do when I was 7 weeks pregnant!

Totally off subject, the hot baths, be careful... raises body temperature, possible harm to the baby.

Okay, back... ummm, have you tried actually talking to your doctor about it? At various times in pregnancy, my doctor suggested I take Tylenol PM, or Simply Sleep (the equivilant of the same amount of sleep meds, without the pain reliever). She recommended it to me, and when my younger sister had my neice, and in my sister's current pregnancy. Also, Unisom gelcaps work a little more quickly (I think, anyway), it has the same meds, only instead of taking two pills in one dose, just take one. It might help. If it makes you feel more comfortable, ask your doctor, but I've always been told Tylenol PM is okay.

How about reading a book - do you work? If not then I would just try to get some sleep whenever you can. It will get better later on in your pregnancy and then in the 3rd trimester you will get tired again and not be able to sleep as you'll be so big and uncomfortable

Often, not being able to sleep at night is because people get too much sleep during the day. However, if this is not the case, then take your problem to the Lord. Ask Jesus before retiring to help you sleep through the night. It worked miracles for me during my pregnancies. The Lord helped me every time. Peace comes from the Lord.

Oh I sooo sympathise.
The same thing is happening to me.
I'm so tired, I go to bed and fall asleep only to be woken a couple of hours later and I'm covered with sweat.
Then I can\'t get back to sleep for ages and its really stressing me out.
I am 5 weeks gone btw!

I was like that from the week 1! I had very strange times for sleep: from 9pm till 1am and after that - None! And it was for whole 9 months! But during day... I just wish i didn't have to work and look after my family.. I needed to have a long nap.

It sucks, doesn't it? Try not to drink anything after dinner, as it might be your bladder that is waking you up...whether you get up and pee or not. Also, try and wait a little later to go to sleep. That is why my SIL did, and she said she got a good night because she was so tired.
