NOPE...for one big reason.MATURITY level, they should go for at least 2 years , on how to learn to handle money, themseves, and the media, and they should be FORCED to put some aside in case they DONT make it..not every KID right out of HIGH School can handle al the things that are about to come at them...if they play basket ball it so different than playing 30 games a season to playing close to 100

Athletes who jump straight from high school to the pros seldom make it because of a lack of maturity. Their bodies are not mature enough to handle the rigors of pro sports. And their minds are definitely not mature enough. Hand any kid 18-22 (and sometimes much older) large sums of money (especially kids raised in poverty who have never had money) and it is a recipe for disaster. Add to it fans who throw themselves at the athletes and a lack of responsible "adult" supervision. The maturity that comes from attending college and being on your own without the temptations allows many of these kids to succeed.
PS: The argument they are old enough to be in the army is a poor one unless pro sports is going to institute the same rules and discipline as the military.

Most should not because not everyone will make it in the pro's. You need a college background to fall back on if for some reason you don't make it. Besides too many of the kids who skip college in the NBA act like thugs and can barely speak. They definitely need an education.

They should not go to pro straight out of high school because they do not have any learning experience. What if they get kicked out of the NBA or MLB or watever and they have no job because they did not go to college! They also need to have a bit of knowledge on how to handle social situations such as press, interviews, etc. They need to go to college....it is just SMARTER!

A free ride through High School, and then a free ride through life making insane amounts of money by playing sports?
Doesn't sound too good to me. <_< I like the idea of college being required. That way they at LEAST have something to fall back on.

no they shouldnt. what i like about the NFL is that they require all athletes to complete 3 years of college before they can turn pro. the NBA needs to adopt that rule.

No. A college education is invalueable. The NBA instituted a one year rule and college basketball was electrifying this year. Both Oden and Durant played at least one year and Oden may stay. It is beneficial to both the NBA and the NCAA.

No, they shouldn't because there are many different lvl of skill between high schools. Its like saying if your team lost every game should they be pros? Heck no! There would be no competition
