The starter is cranking fast, but not catching. The Carb. was overhauled last summer and synicronized as well. I ahve not done a tune up on it yet. Last summer we charged the battery for 24 hours and it held the charge.

More info needed. Is it cranking fast and just not starting, if so start with a tune-up, if that doesn't work may be time for a carb overhaul. If its cranking slow and then finally catching your battery and/or battery connections probably need some attention. First place to start is to pull the battery out have it charged and checked, replace if necessary.

EDIT: From your added info I assume that your bike has been stored for the winter and you are just now getting it out. I'd still have the battery charged, that and a tank of fresh gas will probably set you straight, good luck and happy riding.

When you push the starter button, does the engine not crank and the sound you here is "bizzzzzzzzzzing"?
That would be the starter clutch not engaging the engine.
The starter motor is in the very front of the crankcase.
Put your hand on it when you try to start the bike. If you can feel it run, then the starter clutch will need to be repaired.
