It's as central to the plot as love. They are two sides of the same coin. The Friar talks about plants that can have healing properties and poison both together inside them. He says people are the same. What tips love into violence and conflict in the play is Fate, and the weaknesses in the characters themselves, eg Romeo's impulsiveness.

Yes.
Violence and Conflict is one of many central themes to Romeo and Juliet.
There is the obvious violence expressed between the Houses of Montague and Capulet and then there are lesser examples of violence shown by Juliet's Father towards Juliet after her refusal to marry Paris.

Other themes in Romeo and Juliet include
Fate and Destiny, Love, Curses, the list goes on.

My heart goes out to the families of the Virginia Tech victims, and I am praying for comfort.

Violence and conflict are 'central' to most drama, since ordinary life without drama is ordinary and 'boring-ish' so that no one would write a play about it.

Now is earlier days, the fencing scenes where people are hurt in Shakespear plays was just that - fencing with rapiers=, and the scenes were choreographed and obviously the actors are not really hurt. Today's movies of Shakespeare plays show gore and gruesome details and people get the idea that all Sh plays are X rated.

Not so. It is our 21st century culture which has de-sensitized violence through the entertainment/music industry. Sadly.

There is plenty of love, joy and delight in Sh plays, and in other drama too.

So my answer is "No, Violence and conflict are NOT central." Final answer.

I was just wondering what page the events are on where Tybalt and Mercutio are killed and also when Romeo kills Paris? I get 2 lessons to do it but I've used up one and only did 2 sentences and now I'm restarting haha :/ don't know if I'll finish but this would be a great help! Thank you.
