....what appeared in this case, to be much needed help?? or be asked to leave and not allowed to ever return?
BLACKSBURG, Va. - The gunman suspected of carrying out the Virginia Tech massacre that left 33 people dead was described Tuesday as a sullen loner whose creative writing in English class was so disturbing that he was referred to the school's counseling service.
News reports also said that he may have been taking medication for depression, that he was becoming increasingly violent and erratic, and that he left a note in his dorm in which he railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus.
no, we can never know what people are capable of. But we had Columbine and other incidents, and we did see a trend...all of them had problems..were basicaly loners, and nonconformists.

Some students should be asked to leave if they have serious issues. Some people should be forced into emotional rehab. It's not okay to let these things go. Why does the public have to pay for depressed souls that don't get help? This killer let his emotions stew to the point that he couldn't handle it. Instead of just killing himself, he chose to go after innocent people who were just trying to get ahead in life. Why should everyone else suffer for those who can't get a grip in life? or at least get help for their problems? Colleges are in hard positions, they don't have to accept everyone. Let's be realistic for once. You don't get everything you want in life. Instead, you have to learn to love what you have. Everyone has an excuse for being depressed these days. GET HELP!!! LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF!

It would be way too hard to know where to draw the line, if you are just going by the fact that he was sullen and withdrawn and he wrote disturbing things. It would one thing if a student was causing physical damage or violence against others. In this case they should definitely be removed from the school environment. But there are alot of harmless kids out there, who would never do anything like this, but would write disturbing things to turn in to school and would appear sullen to the general public. I know some of them and I went to college with others, and they never opened fire on people.

And go where? We need to address why this person didn't seek help for his issues. Someone gave him antidepresents, what about follow up care. Why did his family encourage him to go to college if he was that socially inept? It is not the sole job of the college to moniter every person's mental state. And you can not force anyone to get counseling or commit them-I worked with Social Services in VA, you make a referral and see it go no where unless the person volunteers to seek help or a family member commits them. Plus depressed people still know that murder is wrong-this kid had major issues and didn't belong in a stressful environment like college when his neighbors said he couldn't make eye contact with them after living in the neighborhood in VA with his family for years. I do have some resentment towards his family for not doing more-maybe I shouldn't but right now I can't help it. If your child doesn't fit in socially in high school, then you don't send them to a large college campus where he might kill himself or worse hurt others.

We need better health care in this country so these people could get proper care. We are a society that wants a quick fix, a cheap cure so we give them a pill and put them back into society.
Psychiatrist are pressured to have a patient in and out of their office in 15 mins. They write a prescription, make sure they are able and willing to take the medication and send them out the door. A month later they take another 15 mins to see how they are doing on the meds.
Therapists are rarely covered by insurance benefits. If they are it is for limited sessions. Our healthcare system says give people drugs instead of treating them long term for their mental health issues.

I would not be one to rush in and say that all loners and non conformists are going to cause issues such as these. There are a slim few people who would actually do this, it just happens that they do fit the "shiffy" loner type. I do think that when any person is seen having extreme issues and writes, says, etc disturbing things we should be for vigilantly watching them to make sure they will not go off of the deep end.

He was 24 inasmuch as it would have been good to have predicted and stopped the events which unfolded, it is very difficult to justify expulsion.
One can justify "Help". Some group stuff where maybe the kid makes friends. That sort of support structure would have been nice. The proctors for the dorm should be trained to help identify situations.
Hope this helps, it's been a while.

I dont think of the belief of maternity leave will impact different youth to have a sprint one. i think of youth are no longer uncovered to the authentic worldwide of what's it choose to have a sprint one. some think of a sprint one is largely a play element and a few thing to tutor off to each physique around them. Maternity leave for any mom (teenager or no longer) is super. the infant is the harmless guy or woman and merits to have that bonding 2d. i think of teenager mothers could be supervised in this era because of the fact they're nonetheless immature and egocentric and could possibly no longer understand that it is not approximately them anymore, this is all with regard to the infant's desires. Maternity leave is important to the infant's progression and back for the bonding sake.

What if they're "at risk" and you ask them to leave college, and *that's* what triggers them to go an a shooting spree? Getting kicked out of college isn't a small deal! And could quite easily put someone who's already got problems WAY over the edge!

You can only offer help, you can not force them to use it. Many times the help makes things worse as well. Because people assume things that are not real or in play at the time. Which only adds to the RAGE!
