Can't add pictures to notepad, it is only a text editor. Instead open them with MS Paint.

As everyone has spotted, Notepad is a text editor.
In Notepad click on open.
At the top you have the look in Directory.
Then you have the files that are in that directory.
Then you have the file name
Then you have the file type. This is the one that is foxing you.
Change this file type to all files and you will be able to see your pictures. You should not really open any of your pictures with Notepad because you will not see the image. Just the binary characters that make up the image.

This open dialogue is the same for most programs that allow you to open files.

If you want to check what files you have in a particular directory then you would be better off using Windows Explorer. Right click on the start button and then click on Explore. Now navigate to your directory. You can double click on any icon and the file will open with the default program.

* using notepad is the same thing as using a conventional typewriter.
* use Wordpad instead, or MS Office's Word.
* you can put pictures in Wordpad & Word, not in Notepad
* If you dont have (or dont have the money) to buy MS Office, use OpenOffice which is free and some of it's features are better than MS Office.
* notepad is a very basic text editor, yet it has a powerful potensial capability, which in turn can destroy the OS / Windows, notepad is sometimes (often) used by hackers or crackers

You cannot add pictures to Notepad. Notepad uses basic .txt files which are used by every operating system there is. It is a very basic text editor.

If you want to add pictures, use wordpad.

You cannot add pictures to a Notepad textfile. To add pictures to text files, i would recommend you to use the in-built text editing program "Wordpad".
