1. Major in pre-med. Finding the best program you can will help, but settling for a lesser program or even starting at community college will not prevent Johns Hopkins from thinking of you.

2. Earn the highest GPA you possibly can.

3. Get a part-time job in health care in a situation where you can meet doctors. Volunteer, if you must, in your campus health clinic or a local hospital--but make certain that you have a chance to meet doctors. Let them know you're after a career in those areas and ask their advice.

4. In your junior year, start shopping for med. school. Aim to get into the best one you can. No later than start of senior year, send off the applications. Get letters of recommendation from all the doctors you've made your acquaintances, and ask them if they know anything about the admissions interview at where you're applying.

5. Finish med. school with as many honors and a high g.p.a. Now you will begin internships/residencies to complete your general medical license.

6. Return to med. school for work in your specialization (path. or infectious disease, whichever you've settled on).

7. Do residency in your specialization. Then: DONE. Start practicing.

Johns Hopkins may be your location in steps 5 or 7.

Biology, Chemistry in "spades" dear, anatomy and physiology and lots of it! Very interesting career interest, I must say. I would do my prep at a community college, save money and transfer to a more esteemed 4 year college that draws in people interested in the sciences (take a look at the Princeton Review for college listings and ratings...) -About a 8-9 year journey attain. Great idea if you are good at the sciences...

GOODLUCK!!!
