you need to clean the cage. and NEVER give them water baths!!! they'll get really, really sick! you can give them sand baths if you want.

and i know this is a weird question... what sort of stink do you smell? sometimes, they have certain odors that indicate that your hamsters are sick.

also, what bedding are you using? i use the animal planet brand you can find in target. carefresh is also something very absorbent and reduces the smell.

Use the regular bedding that you buy at the pet store. Keep the cage clean. Like clean it everyday! Especially with two hammies. Is the cage big enough for two, and make sure they have a wheel to run around on. Keep the water clean(fresh everyday) and clean food daily.

Just change the litter daily, that should help. Hamsters themselves don't have much of an odor.

Hamsters are not normally the smelliest of rodents - far less smelly than mice and rats!

Clean them more regularly if you find they're smelling. Once a week is usually sufficient, but it may need to be twice a week. By cleaning, I mean they need a complete change of all bedding and whatever you use to cover the base of their cage. You also need to clean the whole base/tank and their wheel and little houses, whatever you have in there for them. Use a special pet disinfectant from a petshop, as household cleaners have phenols in them which can be harmful.

The actual hamsters themselves shouldn't be smelly. You could give them the occasional bath using small animal shampoo (from petshops) but be sure to dry them completely (using tissue and towels, not a hairdryer!). Be aware that getting small animals wet is not ideal, and can stress them overly.

NOTE: Pine and cedar shavings are NOT advisable for use with rodents, they have known to be toxic over time. 'Safe bedding' is the best to use (from Petsmart) - its like soft paper pieces

If it is a male, that explains half of it. Females tend to have one area they use for litter and clean themselves more than males. If it is a small cage, you definantly need to clean it like everyday it is smells that bad. The type of bedding counts too. Also, clean the cage itself, wash the inside with soap and water but not a soap that is really strong and will still smell later, that will iritate the hampster. Make sure the water is not leaking or getting knocked everywhere, most bedding smells horrible when it gets wet :P

he stinks becuase you dont clean her cage enough, which is probably it, you need to clean it once a week. I have 4 hamsters and dont have any smell becuase i clean their cages once a week, one of them is even litter box trained

also, if they are dwarfs, they can live together, but if their serians, then they need to be seperated...Just in case you didnt know

OH and i noticed someone said give them a bath...DONT DO THAT. The stress itself can kill it, also the shampoo is toxic to them. If your hamster is really greasy and needs a bath, then get it chinchilla dust bath, it has no water and cleans them up nicely, they also like to roll in it, so you can jsut leave a bowl of it in their cage. DONT GIVE A HAMSTER A BATH, sorry, just wanted to remind you

We had 2 in one cage for a few months. We changed the cage once a week. In between changes, once a day, add a little more wood chip bedding and the smell will be absorbed in it. Or you could chage the bedding completely more often.

I've read that they pick a certain spot in the cage to deficate. Ours never did. If yours does, you could just clean that spot every few days.

If they are both males they should have seperate cages - they'll fight and will eventually kill the other.

Clean the cage.. They generally only potty in one area.. They are relatively clean.. If not, look on the bright side, they only live 999 days....

They live in their own sh*t. Change the cage lining as often as possible. that should clear up the stink.
