I recommend a general MBA because it's a very diverse program and you can do anything with it. I'm currently attending Grand Canyon University for my degree and they have a traditional campus, like Michigan, and offer online degrees. I'd check them out, it's a private Christian university. Good luck!

Michigan State has a hospitality management program under its MBA - you should look into that if you're interested in the field. Its has everything from Finance to Hospitality Management to International Business courses included.

I'm sure that you can get into an MBA program right out of college. The problem is -- you can't get into a good one.

I don't see the benefit of getting an MBA unless you get it from a ranked school. Those who go to a top 15 MBA program get six-figure jobs in any field they want. Those going to a ranked school not in the top 15 do well -- with those going to better schools getting better jobs.

However, those going to schools that are not ranked don't really get much of a bump in salary. They may benefit from it if they stay in the same company -- but you don't have a company to stay with.

The top schools want you to have three to five years of work experience.

In the long run, you will be better off getting some work experience and going to a top school than getting an MBA now from a place that won't help you get that great job.

There is one exception to all of this. Many schools will allow one or two of their undergraduates to continue on to get an MBA without work experience. One of my students at Wharton was able to do this. You might approach MSU about continuing on for an MBA there. I think that is your only chance to get into a ranked MBA program without work experience.

There is another alternative for you. If you want to stay in the hospitality business, then you could apply directly to a graduate program in Hotel and Restaurant Management. You probably already know that MSU has the best MBA program in the field. But you could apply for a master's degree at Cornell's Hotel and Restaurant school without work experience. It isn't an MBA -- but it is the premier school in your field. UNLV also has an excellent graduate program in this field (though not in many other fields).
