In the USA we have a Supreme Court case...Tinker vs. Des Moines...in 1969 clearly establishing that First Amendment speech rights DO NOT stop at the schoolhouse door. So...why on earth should 2nd Amendment ones?!

Isn't it shameful how the college campus has become a 2nd Amendment-free zone? This is a criminal's dream come true. Thousands of law-abiding people are required to surrender their basic human right to self-defense and become unarmed sheep for slaughter, thanks to liberal college administrators.

The thoughtless policies which ban firearms and concealed-carry from our universities have cost us dearly this time, with 32 dead and more wounded.

If only ONE law-abiding student or faculty member had been allowed to excercise their 2nd Amendment liberties, tragedy could have been averted or curtailed much earlier.

Perhaps this will serve as a wake-up call for the leftwingers who foolishly suggest that Constitutional Rights somehow end at the schoolhouse door.

To the libs, anyplace without freedom is better than anyplace with it. Plus, the KGB took over the American educational system years ago.

While I basically agree with you, the answer is just not that simple. True if every teacher was properly trained and licensed to carry a hand gun, many innocent lives could have been saved. But just because they have that right, does not mean they have to exercise that right. Personally I think at least some should, but each person must make up their own mind as to whether they WANT to carry a gun. Of course if the gunman knew he was going to kill himself anyway, a teacher killing him would not be much of a deterrent. There's just no easy answer...

For Nickf. A "well-regulated" militia is made up of ordinary citizens - citizens with guns. The militia is not the Federal Army or Navy - but a counterbalance to that power, should it ever come to that.

In 1781 in his Notes on the State of Virginia, Query IX, Thomas Jefferson described the militia: "Every able-bodied freeman, between the ages of 16 and 50 is enrolled in the militia. .... In every county is a county lieutenant, who commands the whole militia of his county. .... The governor is the head of the military, as well as the civil power. The law requires every militia-man to provide himself with the arms usual in the regular service."

Please note in the following Supreme Court case that the shooter at Virginia Tech did not have 2nd Amendment rights because he was not a citizen. So, theoretically, he should not have been allowed to even buy a gun. This decision should also answer the question as to the rights of illegal aliens:

'[T]he people' seems to have been a term of art employed in select parts of the Constitution... While this textual exegesis is by no means conclusive, it suggests that 'the people' protected by the Fourth Amendment, and by the First and Second Amendments, and to whom rights and powers are reserved in the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, refers to a class of persons who are part of a national community or who have otherwise developed sufficient connection with this country to be considered part of that community... (Excludable alien is not entitled to First Amendment rights, because "[h]e does not become one of the people to whom these things are secured by our Constitution by an attempt to enter forbidden by law"). The language of these Amendments contrasts with the words 'person' and 'accused' used in the Fifth and Sixth Amendments regulating procedure in criminal cases." (U.S. v. Verdugo-Urquidez, 494 U.S. 259 [1990])

When you're talking about schools with minors in attendance, you have a different situation - children enjoy special protection under the law, but not the same rights as adults.

Colleges, though, the rights of the students are the same as those of any other adult citizens.

Most of the constitutional rights end at the schoolhouse door because thats where they like to breed their liberals and try to keep them from ALL outside knowledge so they can cram anti american ****, the liberals can't control the country but they can control their small little campuses.

"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

A sentence does not end at a comma. Read the entire text don't get stuck only with the last part.

Look, you can look at yesterday from 3 different ways.

Those that believe gun laws prevented such a bad disaster from happening before and/or prevented it from being worse.

Those that believe that every person should carry a gun, so the .00005% of us that encounter a crazy person can defend ourselves.

Those that understand the problem starts at home and that bad things will happen. It's great that we don't have to expect this kinda behavior too often.

You guys never stop and think that every person can't handle the right to bear arms because they aren't stable mentally. This happened not because everyone didn't have a gun to protect themselves, but more because one person that owned a gun couldn't control themselves.

Leftwingers?

Interesting...I live in Canada and the left wing has what they want. Most of society in North America (USA and Canada) will meekly do what they are told. They will also die without resisting. IF two or three students or professors etc had charged this guy, I think that many lives would have been save. BUT, society has a ME FIRST attitude.
