I am taking classes on my own time for something that is totally unrelated to my current position. My co-worker (who likes to listen in) overheard me mention that I needed to finish my homework over the weekend. He ran straight for the boss man.

I have been called in and interrogated about why I am taking things that do not relate to my current position. My position is I take things that interest me, not to mention that I am doing this on my own time. I am paying for this class; there is no reason for me to justify this to him.

It is my intention to better myself and not stay in a position where I have reached my limit. I would like to do something that interests me.

Usually the people who are always running and telling on others are the same people who are paranoid that they might not be the shining star and the boss's pet.

Get over him and keep on with your studies. You have a better future waiting for you when you are done.

It's NOT wrong for you to take classes that are unrelated to your career. It is, in fact, a goal that we should all have, as you are bettering yourself, while the rest of us (at least the rest of your coworkers), are resting on our laurels.

It's ENTIRELY WRONG for your boss to question you about what you're doing with your personal time. In truth, a good manager would be thrilled to know that you're trying to round out your knowledge by learning about other things.

Hurrah to you! Keep it up!

Surprisingly, the problem is YOU! Your spare time-usage is only your business. You should of had told that nosy co-worker to stay out your personal business in a mean yet professional manner. You should of had told your boss that the course is not affecting your job performance but is basically a means of recreation for you (if you.) Plus, you are staying current and dedicating necessary time for relaxation and work issues. Thats all your boss cares about. Dude, learn to stand up for yourself, rather than cry on here when someone pushes you around.

If the boss isn't paying for it, they are all way out of line!!! It's your business what you do in your off time. If you are doing homework in the office, that's a no-no, but if not, they need to mind their own business. Finish your studies asap and get out of that crazy place.

Good luck!

Nothing wrong with that. Sounds like your co-worker is a nosey jerk in need of a woopin.

Your boss sounds paranoid and intrusive....I'm happy to know you are expanding your horizons. Good for you. Your co-worker is a real drip.

If you're paying for it, whatever classes you take is nobody's business but your own.
