I know that right now Johnny Bench is considered the greatest catcher, but I believe that Pudge Rodriguez is better than Bench. Although he is still active i don't consider him the greatest yet, i think he can still win a couple more golden gloves to solidfy that title.......But the day that he retires we will be considered oficially the greatest catcher ever in my opinion eventhough i already consider him that.

Antwaan are you crazy, Gary Carter doesn't even come close to any of the other ones you mentioned on that list....And hey I'm a Mets fan just in case.

Johnny Bench is the best I've seen. All around talent. Great defensively, good power hitter that drove in a lot of RBIs.
However, Pudge is much better and closer to Bench than some obviously think. Terrific at throwing out base stealers, and great quickness. Offensively, hits for average and still has occassional power. One thing that Pudge has done better than I think any catcher in history is his baserunning. He is a complete player, unlike the two overrated catchers Carter and Piazza. Sorry.

I believe that Johnny Bench is the best catcher ever as of now, as he provided a rare combination of team leadership, hitting ability, and defensive talent. Yogi Berra is a close second, but if you take into consideration how many great hitters and pitchers he had on his teams, and how he never really had to be the leader of any of the Yankee teams, I have to give Bench a slight edge, even with Berra's 3 MVP awards. Pudge could be the greatest all time, but it depends on how well he holds up when he is close to the down years of his career.

Johnny Bench is, and will be the greatest catcher of all time for a very long time. Pudge is a very good catcher, but will never be as good as Bench. Plus, it looks like Pudge lost about 30 lbs., probably cuz he had to get off the roids to stay out of any scandals.

johnny bench is a much better catcher than pudge. for one, he is just as good at defense, winning 10 gold gloves, 2-time mvp, 12-time all star, lou gehrig, babe ruth, and hutch award winner, and being one of the most consistent offensive catchers in baseball with almost 1400 runs battied in. base stealers didnt have a lot of fun with him either. and to top it all off, he knew how to call great games and handle a pitching staff. the things he's done (although pudge can do some of those things as well) can't be matched by any other catcher

As a Texas Rangers fan, I LOVE Pudge. I believe he is the best catcher of the last 20 years. However, Bench is the best all time.

Pudge Rodriguez better than Johnny Bench???!??!?!?
NEVER.
I cannot believe that even crossed your mind. Johnny Bench is a legend, hall of famer, and has better stats. Just like the same thing with Kobe or LeBron being the next Michael Jordan, it will never happen.

Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra.
3 time MVP (and considering Mickey Mantle was in the league and his team for all three of those years, that is saying a lot)
