It's term of endearment used by someone to show they think you are a sweet person. If someone gets offended by it, they didn't deserve to be called honey in the first place.

I worked as a retailer--a lady called me honey...I felt belittled-I told her "that is not my name" -ever since then only my man can call me honey is what i say to anyone who will call me that-so yeah it can be offensive..some people are easy going though & dont mind.

I work as an Executive Assistant & when men use it over the phone & make it sound derogatory it does offend me a little bit.

Yes, I am offended by some people, especially when women mean it in a condescending way. When someone young calls me "hon" or "dear", it makes me angry.
