Inthe USA, when you complete medical school you receive a Doctor of Medicine degree, M.D. and you are entitled to be called "Doctor".

Students who graduate from a school of Osteopathic Medicine receive the degree Doctor of Osteopathy or D.O. which is roughly equivalent, although some people regard it as less prestigious.

Doctor of Medicine
Doctor of Medicine (M.D. or MD, from the Latin Medicinæ Doctor which means teacher of medicine) is an academic degree for medical doctors. It varies between countries, from being an entry-level professional degree, to being a relatively rare higher doctoral research degree.
