1. My husband. Some good, healthy support from somebody you love and trust is the most important thing since childbirth (like any other painful thing) is mostly overcome mentally. If you get nervous, anxious, scared or frightened you will be far worse off.
2. Pain medication. Anything that helps take the edge off is of course helpful. Managing pain will help you stay in control.
3. Ice chips. Labor is like running a marathon and you are just as thirsty as if you had! If you have ever had parched lips before, you know what a relief refreshing water can bring.
4. Lip balm. For those parched lips.
5. The thought that there will be an "end". Labor does not last forever. And at the end your greatest gift in life -- your baby!

My list may seem a little stupid and maybe a little childish. But the top 5 things I could not get through labor without were

1. My husband
2. My mother
3. My teddy bear from when I was a child
4. Chap stick
5. My pillow

1. Husband
2. Midwife
3. Jacuzzi Tub (We had one installed just for the birth)
4. Hot packs (so wonderful)
5. Steak and eggs for breakfast (Try getting that in a hospital after birth)

I never did the music thing, but we always plug in a movie.

My husband
A good delivery nurse
Chapstick (Don't leave home without it! Your lips get so dry!)
A calm environment
A warm Jacuzzi bath

Bring whatever kind of music you like to chill out to. Ask if there are CD players available. You don't want to lug one along if you don't have to.

Gas (used with a mask, to help me breath deeply & evenly)

The thought of seeing my baby

Yelling when I needed to (I had a very sore throat afterwards!!)

My husband being there

Just getting into whatever position I felt comfortable in & trying to 'go with the flow'

Some advice I got was to just go with it & try not to fight it.
(I didnt even give music a thought.)
