My boyfriend is always complaining of his head hurting. It is starting to concern me. He usually complains about them when he wakes up, in the afternoons and after work. But its more than that, he has had them for years. He says pain meds dont work on him and he refuses to see a doctor. Im sure its nothing real serious, but I am still concerned. I dont like to see him in pain. Does anyone know anything about headaches? Or is there anyone else that is experiencing this? Any info would be nice.

also, sometimes the pain is so bad for him, he throws up and takes scalding hot showers in the dark to distract from how much it hurts.

His best bet is to see a doctor, period. Don't mean to alarm you, and I'm certainly no doctor, but persistent headaches might be the result of a very serious medical condition, such as cancer, non-cancerous tumors, cerebrovascualar accident ("CVA" or "stroke"), cerebrospinal fluid leak, etc. On the other hand, it might be something relatively benign, such as allergies, a vitamin deficiency, poor circulation, low blood sugar, etc.
However, the sensitivity to light (taking hot showers in the dark) and nausea lead me to believe that he might be having migraines. There are a number of both preventative/prophylactic and curative drug regimens that have been scientifically established to provide relief.
If he believes that he is suffering from migraines, and still refuses to see a doctor (which is just plain dumb, but that's another matter), there are things he can do in his daily life to help manage the condition. Also, there are some herbal therapies that might - MIGHT - help, although we can't be sure how effective they might be, or what side effects might result.
See the website below for more information on migraines, but then again, he might not be having migraines. Regardless, he NEEDS TO SEE A DOCTOR, if for no other reason than to rule out other, more serious medical problems.

The Doctor said, "Joe, the good news is I can cure your headaches. The bad news is that it will require castration. You have a very rare condition, which causes your testicles to press on your spine, and the pressure creates one hell of a headache. The only way to relieve the pressure is to remove the testicles."
Joe was shocked and depressed. He wondered if he had anything to live for. He had no choice but to go under the knife. When he left the hospital, he was without a headache for the first time in 20 years, but he felt like he was missing an important part of himself. As he walked down the street, he realized that he felt like a different person. He could make a new beginning and live a new life. He saw a men's clothing store and thought, "That's what I need... a new suit." He entered the shop and told the salesman, "I'd like a new suit."
The elderly tailor eyed him briefly and said, "Let's see...size 44 long." Joe laughed ,"That's right, how did you know?"
"Been in the business 60 years!" the tailor said.
Joe tried on the suit; it fit perfectly. As Joe admired himself in the mirror, the salesman asked, "How about a new shirt?" Joe thought for a moment and then said, "Sure."
The salesman eyed Joe and said, "Let's see, 34 sleeves and 16-1/2 neck."
Joe was surprised, "That's right, how did you know?"
"Been in the business 60 years."
Joe tried on the shirt, and it fit perfectly. Joe walked comfortably around the shop, and the salesman asked, "How about some new underwear?" Joe thought for a moment and said, "Sure."
The salesman said, "Let's see...size 36."
Joe laughed, "Ah ha! I got you, I've worn a size 34 since I was 18 years old."
The salesman shook his head , "You can't wear a size 34. A size 34 would press your testicles up against the base of your spine and give you one hell of a headache."

That is a MIGRAINE!! They suck. The only way to get rid of them is to see a doc. He can try to take Excedrin migraine, that works for me, but sometimes it stops working. My doc gave me pills to reduce them and gave me pills to get rid of them when they first come on. You'll have to tell him he's GOT to go. Good luck!!
