when did you tell your boss about your pregnancy? How did he/she react. I haven't told my boss yet, but I know I'm going to have to do it soon, since I already have a small "bump".Just out of curiosity..

If you are not going to quit your job, then tell them whenever you feel comfortable. It might help you out in the long run because they might be more sympathetic to your emotions or physical discomfort.
If you are going to leave the job permanently, I would wait until you are completely sure so you can wrap up everything you need to.
Hopefully they throw a shower for you before you go!

I told my boss when I was 21 weeks (I'm tiny so it wasn't that obvious then). Rumors were floating around our small office anyways so I decided to come clean. Everyone was very happy for me, and my boss didn't even want to discuss anything concerning when I was leaving or if I was coming back! I had all that prepared though, because I wanted to act in a professional manner. It all depends on how comfortable you are with your boss. If you're nervous, always try the professional route, explaining how long you plan on leaving and who will replace you. I even offered the office my personal cell phone number and email to reach me by, and I told them that I would be swinging by the office every once in a while to make sure things were ok. This is also a good excuse to show off the new baby! You dont' have to tell right away, but it would be best not to leave it to the last minute, in case your boss has to find a replacement or train someone new. Congrats and good luck!

I told my boss after I was 12 weeks and I had an ultrasound and made sure everything was "normal" and healthy. He was very excited and told me I was going to be a great parent. They can't really get mad at you and they cannot fire you. There are laws to protect against that. It was probably a little stressful for him at first trying to figure out who's going to do my job when I'm gone, but now everything is great. I was really nervous about telling him too. The thing is, though, that you need to tell him before he hears from someone else. That probably will make your boss a little upset. Good luck.

The labor law in my area states that an employer may fire an employee without cause at anytime during the first three months of employment. After that, they must have a good reason, and absolutely MAY NOT fire someone for being pregnant. Since I was a new employee I had to hide my pregnancy until I passed that 3-month mark. Ultimately, this would depend on the legislation in your area...but definitely look into your rights before you say anything, unless you have a well-established, positive relationship with your boss!

I notified my boss the day after I found out I was pregnant. My boss and I are pretty close in age and she and I are friends as well as boss/employee so she was happy for me. She took it well. She's actually bought a lot of stuff for the baby and brought it into work to give to me. She's planning her first child for later this year so she's happy that I'll be able to answer any questions that she will have.

I am 9 weeks 4 days, and just had my first ultrasound today. I wanted to wait to tell my boss until after I had my first appointment and saw the heartbeat, and knew that everything was ok. I just told him today. He is thrilled. They just had a baby last year. I already have one baby, so he knows that I can handle it all and will not let it get in the way of my work.

Just reassure your boss that you will not let it interfere with your work, and tell them you'll make up any missed time, or be happy to cross-train one of your fellow employees if you have some special work assignments that nobody else knows how to do. They will have their concens, but it's up to you to reassure them that you won't let them down.

I have a pretty close relationship with my boss, so I told him once the morning sickness got really bad. I was starting to show up a little late and have to leave early/call in because I was so sick. I figured he needed to know what was going on before I started getting reprimanded.

If you aren't sick I would wait until after your first check-up to announce it. Many people wait until they are in the 2nd trimester.

Also, if you have a performance review coming up anytime soon, I would wait until after it is done to announce the pregnancy. Although it is illegal to discriminate based on pregnancy, it happens. You wouldn't want to not be considered for a raise or promotion because of your condition.

I told my boss at about six weeks, but I have a special situation. I had to miss work due to being at the ED getting rehydrated from extreme morning sickness. Also, I have a job where I work with immuno-compromised people, so I needed to explain my vomiting pretty darn quick.

I think most people wait until after the first trimester.

i told my boss when i was around 12 weeks, just because i thought it was a little safer to tell them then. I had just heard the heart beat, so it was cool. I had to tell them soon because i had so many doctor appointments i know they were getting suspicious. but everyone was great. I've been with the company for a long time so had no worries.
Good Luck

I told my boss yesterday actually. I'm 12 weeks, 5 days. She asked me to create a webpage and I told her in the site, along with a plan on working from home, how much time off I plan to take, ect.

Good luck!
