Hell no.
I would feel less safe. If guns were banned in America do you honestly think the criminals would turn them over? Would hand them in? No. It would just be taking the guns out of the law abiding peoples hands who only want them for protection against the thugs.

I am not a great gun lover. I have a couple of rifles that I use for target shooting but I do not own, or wish to own, a handgun. However, the problem is not necessarily the gun. Canada has more gun owners per capita yet there is very little gun violence. What I do think that contributes to the level of violence in this country is the fact that violence is accepted in movies, on TV, and in the news. Our population has become so desensitized to violence that these incidents bound to happen.

There's a huge argument about that subject in the U.S. Some people say that we should ban all guns, except for the police, so that the streets and the country in general will be safer. Others say that we need guns to protect ourselves from the criminals that use guns to commit violent crimes, and that people can be threatened and killed by knives and other types of weapons as well.
Thanks for the concern.

Well being English, I would feel a lot safer being able to carry a gun. The only people with handguns here are the crooks. That's great isn't it ? ! The amount of gun crime in the UK has gone through the roof since the government imposed a blanket ban on guns. This country is going down the pan because of you lily-livered liberals. For God's sake stop wimping out and take a leaf out of the US attitude. We will always be weak with no way of defending ourselves until we do.

Thank you for your wonderful sentiment. Regarding gun ownership, I feel that it is a symbol of freedom. Owning a firearm is a dangerous thing and that's exactly the point. The government should fear an armed populace. Criminals should fear an armed populace.
If someone on Virginia Tech's campus were legally allowed to carry a concealed weapon, perhaps the death toll would have been much less.
I am not willing to live in a country where I am disarmed and held helpless to the government and criminals.

Generally a killing with a gun is by someone who really has no real reason to have one. No, I cant say id feel safer if nobody had guns. I will feel unsafer with the governments in all nations today. Before Hitler took over, guns were taken from the public.
If someone comes into my home, with intent to harm, I can shoot them, saving mine and my childrens lives.
I had a delayed emotional reaction to this, and it saddens me deeply, and I am unable to understand this guys thinking. It makes NO SENSE to kill a bunch of innocent college kids. No agenda, or reasoning, just mass murdering terrorism.
There is a balance of injustice in America today towards the children by schools and law enforcement also, 6 yr olds getting arrested for terrorism, for what used to be considered inappropriate play, etc..
Injustice is creating a VOLATILE ATMOSPHERE. Also, the war, and recent 15 yr history , violent video games that even teach our kids to kill cops, steal cars, etc..violent music, movies, parents working all the time and never with their kids..porn,,so much has destroyed our society,,alcohol believe it or not,,KILLS MORE PEOPLE THAN GUNS AROUND THE WORLD in a single yr here in america. Dr.s do too, we dont ban alcohol and doctors, why ban guns. ( certainly not implying dr intent)

Well, what good would that do? There are plenty of other ways to kill people.
Remember: Guns dont kill people. People use guns to kill other people. You can replace that second "guns" with "bombs, piano wire, swords, knifes, pencils, even just plain ol' beating the heck out of each other"
No, we americans like the ability to have guns. It is very tragic that a gun was used to kill those 33 students. But how will taking away guns from decent, good citizens help? The criminals would still have guns, and then how would good citizens be able to defend themselves from people who have guns?
Yes, this is not the first kind of this incident in our country. People get shot every day, all over the world. If we take away all the guns in the world, people would find other ways to kill each other.

I feel safer with the ability to own a gun if I so chose. Even if they banned guns from law abiding citizens, its not us who are commiting those crimes now is it? No. The criminals would stiff find a way to obtain the gun and we would be more vulnerable. The difference between our country and England may be that your police are not bogged down by political correctness and civil rights nonsense and can do their jobs and catch and prosecute criminals. Its that deterrant, crim inals knowing that they will be found, caught and made to pay for their crimes instead of getting off, that makes the difference.

I am not sure to be Pro or Anti guns. I lived in a Los Angeles area where gang members lived left and right. I had the special police with K9s in my back yard at 3 in the morning, looking for a gunman who jumped thru all back yards in that area. Another time a guy knocked at my door at 9 at night, calling for help, asking to let him in. Well, I didn't but I called 911..the guy was still knocking at my door. When the police finally arrived and I opened the door for them, they told me that if I would have opened the door to help this guy, I would have been killed. This guy was chased by gangmembers with guns and if I would have let him in, the guys would have come in as well.....you imaging.....I don't own a gun.
However, there is another side: You are not any safer for getting rid of guns. You traded a right for a perceived safety. So what if your chances of getting shot are 3% lower, but your chance of being beaten to death or stabbed goes up 5%?
What about this idea to solve the PRO and ANTI Gun issue?:
For 1 year have a large City declare that all home owners would place in there yard a sign saying..
THIS RESIDENCE IS GUNFREE.....if you are on the ANTI side.
OR
THIS RESIDENSE IS PROTECTED BY ARMED HOMEOWNER...if you are on the PRO side.
At the end of the year we all agree to go with the side that was less victimized by CRIME.

Nope.
Keeping guns out of the hands of sane, rational Americans, leaves all the crazies and criminals out there armed, and us helpless.
Cho could have made a bomb and killed 1000 yesterday, instead of 33, if he didn't have a gun.
It's not about the availabity of arms in a case like this, it is about the mental health of the perpetrator.
The World Trade Center was felled by two airplanes and over 3000 people died, would you ban all airplanes, because of that one terrorist act?
You may not be allowed to own guns in Britain, but that doesn't stop the crazies from blowing up buildings does it.
