I told my parents that my brother was smoking to change the topic from me and now he said he will sue me. Can he do that?

For what? You told your parents the truth! So there's no defamation. There's "public disclosure of private facts," but here the information hasn't been "disclosed" as widely as necessary to cause embarassment.

I mean, someone can always sue someone else; in this case, it would be VERY difficult for your brother to win. (Of course, if you want a real, honest, true answer, consult an attorney in your jurisdiction. :))

If your statement was untrue it could be defamation, but he would have to prove damages to successfully sue you.

I don't think he really plans to do it.

He can file a suit, but there's no way he would prevail in court.
