We are planning to visit Australia in the month of May 2007 and while on our way from Delhi (India ) to Brisbane we have a six hours halt at Singapore.Can we go to the city for few hours without a visa, coz i have read online that if one has all the tickets and visa for onward journey, one can stay in Singapore for upto 96 hours without a visa.
Please guide me if we can visit the city without any hassle.
Thankyou.

Yep you can legally visit Singapore during your layover to Brisbane.

Per the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

Some visitors may transit in Singapore without a visa provided:-
* they hold a valid passport with at least six months validity;
* have firm booking and entry facilities to their next destination, and; continue their journey within the permitted transit hours of arrival to any destination outside Singapore.

If you haven't been to Singapore, perhaps you can look up the FREE 2 hour tour at the transit center. Normally, there isn't a problem for visa to get into these tours.

Here is what in the Changi Airport web-site recommendation:

If you have at least 5 hours to spare before your connecting flight, you can register for a 2-hour sightseeing tour of Singapore from which you can choose between a Colonial Tour, Cultural Tour or a Lifestyle Tour. Registration is based on first-come-first-serve basis and certain conditions apply and are subject to entry visa requirements stipulated by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority. hi. Filipinos are allowed get entry to without visa to right here international locations (the only i understand and have been to without visa); All ASEAN member international locations e.g. Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia different than Myanmar. Hongkong and Brazil. different international locations like Germany, Korea and Austria do no longer require visa while you're utilising valid (pink) passport. those are purely the international locations that i understand (because of the fact I even have been there) yet i'm particularly useful there are extra. Goodluck.

As far as I know, Singapore Airlines arrange city tour for their transit passengers. For that passengers are required to deposit their passport with the airline staff at the airport. Airlines take the passengers for city tour and bring them back at the airport before scheduled departure of the connecting flight.

For a 6hr transit, take the free tour available at the airport that brings you into the city and shows you the main sites, then brings you back to the airport.
