Yes it is. It's easier than talking to someone in person - because you can empty out your whole heart. It is also great to have someone there, too - because it shows they care - because they are there - with you - and no where else at that time of need in your life.
We should all be more thankful.
The letter writing helps too. Sometimes it helps to write an e-mail...all the way out...save it for a few days...and then push the send button. Because that is a mixture of both worlds. Scary - yes. But rewarding in the end.
Love is painful whether you are learning how to love, or having to let go. It's the middle that feels the best.
