I agree with you even though I do not smoke pot. If you are not harming someone else you should be free to make your life your way.
Now I think you should be able to smoke pot if you want...your choice. I should also be able to not hire you...my choice.
But if we are going to allow people to make choices we should not be stuck with the bills that come from those choices - medical, social security, etc. Be responsible for your choices.

Maybe you could use that argument if you were going for a job in the government. :P But since the government isn't requiring people to drug test you, then. well. . . The employers also have every right to the pursuit of happiness without a bunch of drugged up losers. (Yes yes, I realize there are functioning potheads out there, but those are few and far between.)

Because you're an employee (presumably) of a private employer. They can put all sorts of conditions on your employement -- how you dress, how you act (sometimes even off the job). Face it, drugs _do_ cause side effects (or "direct" effects of getting high.) Employers have a legitimate interest in making sure that their employees aren't going to wake and bake, miss work, act goofy while performing jobs, etc. Not to mention the liability if the employer "allowed" you to do something interacting with the public and you caused an accident while high.
The GOVERNMENT may be restricted from invading your privacy in some instances, but most of the time, not your employer.

Dude, I think you need to smoke some more. You spelled "Independence" correctly.
The Declaration (note spelling) of Independence does NOT define your rights. You do NOT have a legal right to the pursuit of happiness. The U.S. Constitution defines what your legal rights are.

isn't it the company's right to not have weed heads like you working there? Why can't I own my own company and be highly selective in the people I want working for. you have no right to work at my company if I don't want you. Now as far as weed being illegal, well its fairly simple.. run for congress, and propose a bill to make it legal. once the majority of Americans agree with you and elect their congressmen to office who all want weed legal then it should pass the house and the senate with no problem..
the us has no right for you to not to run for office.. good luck.. even though i won't vote for you....
drug free and proud!!!!! my mind is pure

Your employer isn't saying you're not allowed to do it. But you can't force them to keep a pothead on the payroll either. It makes your employer happy to not have drug users working for them. It's in the Declaration of Independence.

You don't have a "god given right" to a job. Therefore it is permitted, for the person who wishes to pay you, to make sure you can do their work efficiently and not endanger others which can be the case if impaired by drugs.

And if murdering people makes me happy that should be ok too? What about all the damage the drug distribution system getting your weed to you does?
I frankly think marijuana should be legalized and regulated as being better for you than alchohol, and having worse impacts by being kept illegal than it would if legalized. However, that does NOT carry over to other drugs, and your argument is sufficiently broad that it would.
