I was due April 15th but no baby yet. I will be giving birth at Credit Valley. Have been having contractions for the last three days but cannot wait anymore. Can I ask to be induced if I go to the hospital? or is it up to the doctor?

You should be visiting your doctor soon and I am sure at that point he will discus induction. Keep in mind that only 5% of babies come on their actual due date.
If he doesn't bring it up, ask him.
But no you can't just walk into the hospital and ask them to do it. Just like you can't just walk in and ask for a face lift. LOL

You can ask and it is partially up to the doctor. The hospital probably won't induce you without doctors orders but at your next appointment tell your doctor you would like to be induced. Just explain that you are done with being pregnant. My doctor scheduled and induction not a membrane strip which sounded painful. They just gave me a pitocin drip and I got an early epidural it was really easy and I didn't feel any pain, except back ache because I was in back labor. It was wonderful just a little boring waiting. Some doctors don't induce unless you're two weeks past your due date though. Good luck and congratulations.

You can ask, but it is up to the doc. You are only 2 days overdue and doctors usually won't induce until you go at least 1 week late. Your doctor should have talked about plan B at your last visit. I would speak to him at your next appt, which should be in a few days. Ask him how long he plans to let you wait and what will he do and when if you don't go into labor on your own.

you can, but i wouldnt recommend it from experience. My daughter was to be induced not too much earlier than her due date and she was already over 8 pounds! they induced me and the next day, she quit breathing, she was not ready to be born and her liver wasn't fully developed. If it ever happens again where they want to induce me, I will let it go in God's hands and let nature take it's course... When they are ready to come out, they will come! Good luck!

It is up to the dr. and there has to be a good reason for them to do it. The dr has to be the one to order the induction drugs. Also, on average, first time moms go 8 days past their due date.

It's up to your doctor. . . if you go to the hospital they may page him/her and you can talk ot her, or you can go to a regular appt. At the very least she/he may decide to try sweeping your membranes and then set up a subsequent appt for induction.

My doc said we could talk about it at my next appt (thursday) when I will be 39 weeks 2 days.

I think it's up to the doctor, honey. But, you can talk to him/her about it and see what they think. Hang in there, you're only two days overdue. It can happen anytime. Good luck.

you don't want to be induced. "Pit' labors suck, it throws your breathing off. Don't go there if you don't have to. You will 'pop' real soon. It's only 2 days off.

You’ll have to call your doctor. It sounds like you are well on your way to delivery anyway.
