That's backwards logic.
I feel the VA situation is a sad illustration of the violence in our country, which guns only perpetuate.

More guns would not solve the problem
The USA politicians will also not move to limit the number of guns on sale or limit the laws that allow guns to be sold so easily. America is a gun culture and it is written into their constitution or so they think. In fact the constitution states that citizen's have the right to bear arms to support the militia and not just the right to bear arms.
Pro guns groups will say if more people carried guns this would not happen and will use the incident to rationalize the rights to carry guns. Anti guns group will say the opposite.
It is only the families of the dead that will really feel anything and no one with the power to change things will do anything for these families except offer their condolences.
It's an extremely sad situation but it will only cause a few million tears and these will quickly soak into the fabric of American life and things will continue as is (sigh). So sad.

It is absolute insanity that guns are bought so easily, and sold into the black market... finding their ways into hands of criminals by auto or truck (far from where was originally purchased). Could THIS have been prevented? While I think people should be asked "why" they needed a gun, and I can't see ANY reason to sell one to a young 20-something non-citizen (or ANY non-citizen, post 9/11 -- is everyone nuts???)... in the first place. This one would have to have been on the psychiatrist - on campus, that saw this bird was crazy.. the police should ALWAYS be alerted by campus psych's, and run a check on people like this guy -- maybe they'd be able to TAKE AWAY his gun license and/or firearms? So, anti-gun measures should be greater to help stop senseless and maniacal killings.

Is there such a thing as 'anti-gun' ?
I feel competent people should be able to have them for self defense. (set a national standard and enforce it)
I think hunters should have the right to hunt to feed their families. (Sport hunting is going too far)
I think a LOT more money should be put into mental health awareness and social services (lets give these deranged minds a safe place to show their emotions with words, and not actions)
Let's be more proactive about security.. Limit points of entry to major public areas. Install metal detectors and have more guards out there at public places. Put fences around these colleges and universities.. but leave them open on the inside.
Nothing could have stopped this.. and nothing will stop the next time it happens until we take a more sensible approach to it. I am all in favor of giving up my rights in this one as long as it is for the good of the public.. Nobody seems to have a problem with airport or courthouse security? It just takes a little getting used to, and a lot of money and manpower..
The country would benefit from the job growth.

Like I've always said its not the guns that kill people, its the jerks that are sick and get them in there hands.
If a criminal or sick person wants a gun all the gun laws in the world is not going to stop him, there is always ways to get your hands on a gun.
All these new laws are just making it harder for the honest person that wants a sport to go out and put food on his table cost him more money, they are not hitting the criminal mind something else has to be done.
I am truly very sorry for all the ones that lost there lives and there family's.

It's not the presence of guns that is acting as an impediment to creating safe environments. What happened yesterday, in my opinion, is the result of focusing on Boogey men rather than finding ways to create real security. I work in an industry related to disaster response, and see how there is this big irrational scare against Arabic looking people, bioterrorism, and bird flu. The worst danger is reality that happened in Virginia.

People who are anti-gun will claim that this whole tragedy wouldn't have occured if there were more laws regarding gun control.
People who are pro-gun will claim that if everybody was strapped, then it wouldn't have happened.
The fact is, legally armed citizens are almost never involved in things like this. It is almost always people who purchase them illegally.
It is important for gun owners to make sure they keep their guns safely locked up, so that they don't get stolen and used for things like this, but I definitely don't support banning guns because of the actions of one unstable chickenshit dumbazz.
If he had beaten them to death with a baseball bat would they be trying to illegalize baseball??

Your absolutely right.
Banning guns from Americans hasn't helped anybody. The bad guys are going to get their hands on guns one way or the other. They don't care about laws. So what kind of situation does that put the law abiding citizens in? They don't have the adequate means of protecting themselves from the guys with guns.
In Texas one guy tried to rob a convenience store with a firearm. Immediately, 4 people pulled their guns on him! Without the means of protecting ourselves, the bad guys don't have anything to fear, except for the police, of course, IF they get there in time.

It's already become an issue by Ted Kennedy. Take away the guns from law-abiding citizens and then the criminals will have even more freedom and ability to commit their crimes. I think that anyone who is for all this gun control is actually pro-illegal action and pro-criminal action. They become the enablers of criminals because the criminals won't obey the laws anyway. That's been proven time and again. We keep making new laws and failing to enforce those laws and the criminals just get more bold and brazen.

If a classroom full of 50 students all had loaded guns and they all shot them under great pressure at the same time, you take a guess how many dead we would be mourning today.
On the other hand, if that maniac was running around campus with a butcher knife, you take another guess how many we would be mourning.
